"In Touch" Service |
A hospitalized patient can benefit from visits from family and friends, but isolation requirements or other medical reasons may prevent these visits. New, inexpensive technology may now permit the patient in isolation to visit with family members and friends using standard telephone lines and televisions.
A University of Tennessee Hospital Auxiliary gift established the "In Touch" Service. The Telemedicine Department provides this service using videophones and monitors that can be moved into patient rooms, family rooms, and care provider work areas.
Two aspects of the "In Touch" Service are Baby Touch and Family Touch which allow new mothers or other family members to view infants on occasions when it is not possible to be together.
