What do i do when I have some free time on weekends?

  • There is a bike trail, called Long Leaf Trace, which starts from the university campus and goes out about
forty miles to the west. The trail goes through some beautiful wooded areas and some incredibly peaceful open
rural areas as well. There are no steep hills to climb and the trail is strictly for bikers and runners only,
and therefore it is an ideal exercise/recreation facility. I usually bike out about 12 miles and turn around at Epley station.
The round trip takes about two hours. I would love to go further out, but that is about the best I can do now.

  • Or I go to my backyard and work on my vegetable garden. I grow gaumet lettuces and all kinds of
greens, tomatos, peppers, beans, etc. I do not always succeed, but my success rate is respectable.
When my plants do well, they energize me. It is a secret which only we backyard farmers know.

  • I listen to music a lot, off my CD collections and the university FM station. I like classical, jazz/blue,
and some country music. Look at the pictures. You can tell what i like most. The three bohemians are
obviously cold and hungry and the screaming woman must be making some hilarious fuss. I miss such drama
parts, but the USM music department provides many recitals and concerts of high standard. In fact they staged
La Traviata recently (December 2005). They performed twice and I went to both. What more can I say?
In addition, a civic choral group called the Meistersingers provide very nice choral performances.
So I also enjoy plenty of live performances.

  • I cheer for these students whenever and however I can. I have two schools to pull for, the USM Golden Eagles
in black and gold, and the Florida Gators in orange and blue.

  • Are'nt these twin babies cute?. They will call me granpa!
