by Graham White Davies

Chapter 1

Henry the Giraffe was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. His parents were Mr. Reginald and Mrs. Jessica. They moved to Hattiesburg from Little Rock, Arkansas. They lived at Parkway Village, and his mother worked at Park Plaza Mall, and his father worked at Markham Inn. One day they said, "Let's have a baby giraffe." Then they moved to Hattiesburg, and the first day they drove to Forrest General Hospital. His mother started breathing and breathing, then the baby family came. It was a baby boy, a boy giraffe. His mother and father called him "Henry" because they thought it was a good name.

When Henry was a baby, he lived down on Main Street in Hattiesburg. He went to day care at Parkway Heights. He was with the babies even though he was a giraffe. Then when he was four, he went to Montessori School. He liked it there, because they had fun stuff that he could work with. They had some locks and keys, and they had suitcase you could pack. At Montessori, he did the work like he was supposed to.

After Montessori, Henry the Giraffe moved to Thames School for kindergarten. Mrs. Walker was his teacher. Then he was in first grade, and then he finally was in second grade, in Mrs. Pav's class. The other kids thought he was nice when they first met him. They got along well with him. He was the only giraffe in the classroom. He was a yellow giraffe with a big long neck. He is tall. Every time he hits the door, his head goes "bonk!"

Chapter 2

One day Henry brought his cat to school. He took it to Mrs. Pav's class. Mrs. Pav said, "Henry! Why do you have a cat?!" Henry said, "I like cats. I wanted to bring it." Then Mrs. Pav said, "Well, Henry, where are we going to put the cat?" And then Henry said, "Under my table!"

Henry's cat was named Gracie. Henry was doing his work. Then the cat knocked over a glass of hot coffee on Mrs. Pav's desk. Mrs. Pav said, "Ahhhhhh! Henry, your cat knocked over my coffee. Henry, your cat is suspended!"

Mrs. Pav sent the cat to Dr. Kilgore's office. She said, "Gracie, did you knock over the cup of coffee?" Gracie said, "Meow!" And then Dr. Kilgore said, "You go back and apologize!"

The cat went back and scratched at the door. Mrs. Pav let her in. The cat said, "Meow! Meow!" And Mrs. Pav said, "That's Ok. I accept your apology."

Then Henry went home. And Gracie sneaked under a desk and hid!
