Meet your classmates!
Hey everyone, I'm Amanda Hill from Turner, Maine. I'm really excited about the trip to London because I've always wanted to see it in person, and as a television major I've always considered broadcasting there.
Currently, I'm a senior at Lyndon State College in Vermont studying both television news broadcasting and production. While in London, I hope I have the chance to travel to Paris and maybe even Ireland. I look forward to meeting you all!

| Alena Pearson | Hey everyone! My name is Alena Pearson and I am a senior at
Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. (I am
currently living at home with my family in Haymarket, Virginia-which
is about 30 miles outside of Washington, D.C.) I am majoring in
Communication Studies. This trip to London completes my graduation requirements for August so I am very excited. In my spare time, I enjoy playing sports and staying busy. I like dancing and singing karaoke...a lot..and badly. I ride motorcycles and enjoy trying new beers-of course not at the same time. I am also a HUGE linedancing enthusiast, it's my favorite pasttime, even though I like all music. I'm rarely caught doing nothing, so I like to go out and try new places. I have never been abroad so this is something REALLY new. I hope to really get a firm grasp on English culture-especially socially. During the course, I would like to go to Ireland and maybe Paris on some weekend. A heads up, I am staying an extra two weeks to travel around-so if anyone is interested in tagging along, it'd be awesome. The real world can wait another two weeks for me! I'm not sure where I'm going but I'd like to try for Barcelona and Southern Germany, but I'm really up for it all. | Nate Bishop | Hey Everyone, My name is Nate and I am a senior at Lyndon State College. You probably haven’t heard of it before because it is located way up in Northern Vermont (I mean its only an hour away from Canada). I am studying Television Broadcast News with the hopes of becoming a reporter after graduation. I am from Rhode Island. This trip will be my first experience out of the United States (not including the frequent trips over the border into Canada, but that doesn't really count). In my spare time I like playing basketball, going to clubs, listening to music, watching movies, and just hanging with my friends. While in London I hope to visit Paris. I can't wait to meet you all.

| Shannon Sanders | Hi everyone! My name is Shannon Sanders and I am a 19-year-old sophpmore at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. I am majoring in journalism with a minor in anthropology. I am from Flippin, AR and I love to go to the lake, read and spend time with friends in my spare time. Galway and Amsterdam are two places that I would love to see while we are in London. I breifly visited Paris last summer, and I would love to go again if I have the time! I look forward to meeting you all!

| Yvette McGill | Hello, Everyone!! My name is Yvette McGill and I am a rising senior at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, in Greensboro, NC. I am 21 years old and my major is Journalism and Mass Communications, with a concentration in Broadcast Production. I am originally from Laurinburg, NC, but I live in Greensboro now. In my spare time I like to hang out with my friends, surf the internet, sleep, and get work done. I?m not the sort of person that likes to sit around doing nothing, because I know that there is always something that I can be doing. While I?m overseas, I would like to also travel to Scotland. My hometown is in Scotland County and Laurinburg?s sister city is Oban, Scotland. Everything that we do has to do with Scotland. When I was in high school, the whole marching band whore kilts, including me because I was on the flag team. Now don?t laugh, especially when I say we had our own Scottish dance, called the ?Highland Fling?. I could say so much more about this, but I guess that I?ll wrap things up. I am looking forward to this experience and meeting everyone else that will be studying abroad! Peace. ;) |

| Mailena Vo | mvo@uark.edu Hey everyone! My name is Mailena. I am a senior and a half at the University of Arkansas. My major is journalism with an emphasis in advertising/public relations. I am from Fort Smith, AR. This will be my first time out of the country and my 3rd time on a plane, kind of exciting! In what little spare time I have, I like to hang out with my friends and boyfriend, listen to good music while having a few drinks, camping, canoeing, dancing, movies, pretty much anything. While I'm in London, I hope to travel as much as possible, without going into debt. Specifically, I would like to visit Paris, Barcelona, Rome, etc. I'm sooo excited about this trip and I can't wait to meet all of you! |

| Antonia White | Hello everyone! My name is Toni White. I am a sophomore at the University of Southern Mississippi. My hometown is Gulfport, MS. I am majoring in Journalism. I am not sure exactly which particular area Broadcast? Print? or P.R.? I am hoping this trip will give me some perspective about my decison. I am also very excited to go to London. I have been to Italy once and the beauty is unexplainable. I hope to travel all over the place while I am there. In my spare time I do promotions for a radio broadcasting company, watch movies, shop, ride 4-wheelers, go boating, and sometimes a little gambling. I am very anxious to meet everyone and experience the British culture.

My name is Kate Kellen, and I go to the Univ. of West Florida in sunny Pensacola Florida. I am so excited for this trip, I can't wait! I am a double major of Public Relations and International Studies. I would love to do some traveling while we're there. I grew up in Germany, so I've been most everywhere around there, but never to Ireland, so that's on my list. I've also never ridden on the Chunnel and London to Paris is 3 hours so that's totally doable for the weekend. I'd really like to get a group together to go over on a Friday and stay a few nights in Paris. I love to go out and have fun. I love to sing and dance, and I guarantee each one of you will have told me to shut up and be still before this trip is over. | Nisha Gurley | My name is Nisha Gurley, and I am currently a Creative Writing major (Journalism minor) at Cameron University. After I graduate, I plan to go to OSU and get a Master's in Journalism and then find a job as a news reporter. I also plan on being a song writer and publish a fiction novel that I am currently working on right now. In my spare time I love to write stories, poetry, songs, go shopping, exercise, and spend time with my family and friends. I am definitely very excited about taking this trip! Not only will it help me meet my degree requirements, but I am assured that it will also be a wonderful cultural experience.

Hey folks. Looking forward to having you all in the class. This is my seventh summer to teach the course and my eighth summer in London. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I first started work at USM in 1991 following a 10-year career as a reporter. At USM I teach courses in newswriting, editing, and media history. I hold degrees from Arkansas, Ohio State, USM, and Alabama. I'm associate dean of College of Arts & Letters at USM. I have a 17-year-old son, Graham, and on June 4 of last year I married Angela, pictured here. You'll see a lot of Angela, as she'll be going with us on some of our class trips. Angela teaches language arts at Oak Grove Middle School in Hattiesburg. While this is just her second trip to London, she is a seasoned traveller, having spent a month in eastern Europe in 2002. You'll hear us talk a lot about our dogs (Napolean [right], Oxford, Kevin, and Cleveland) and our cats (Mr. Mew, Dayton, Chillicothe and Waverly). |
