RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research currently focuses on the intersection of language and persuasion.  I am interested in how the persuasive effects of various language variables, such as power of speech style and metaphor, can be integrated into contemporary theories of persuasion such as the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) or the Heuristic-Systematic Model (HSM).  I also investigate how people cognitively process such language variables.

I am also interested in how these language variables interact with other message features, such as argument quality and evidence type, to affect the persuasion process.
