Alan M. Shiller: Personal Notes

Here are a few brief items about myself.

Born: Pasadena, Calif. sometime in the Eocene.

Married to a micropaleontologist/geologist who prefers to remain anonymous and who somehow survives my jokes!

Pets: Murgatroyd (rubber cockroach who gets into all sorts of trouble--currently lost in West Baton Rouge); Pandy Jr. (teddy bear); Wampus (stuffed cat--no, not a real cat, a cloth one) Fred Jr. (a plant native to southern Africa, whose "parent" grew too big to move around) and the countless birds (and squirrels) who visit our backyard feeders.  Also, let us not forget the bunnies, raccoons, possums, deer, and foxes who visit our property.

Backyard bird list: blue jay; cardinal; red-headed woodpecker; red-bellied woodpecker; downy woodpecker; pilliated woodpecker; house finch; tufted titmouse; Carolina chickadee; ruby-throated hummingbird; mourning dove; Carolina wren; winter wren; mockingbird; catbird; brown thrasher; common grackle; American goldfinch; rufous-sided towhee, hooded warbler; myrtle warbler; yellow warbler; black and white warbler; yellow-billed cuckoo; scarlet tanager; common egret; little blue heron; barred owl; eastern bluebird; indigo bunting; unidentified ducks and hawk; emu (actually, the emu was a farm escapee I saw by the side of the road).

Hobbies: cooking, eating, hiking, birding, canoeing, watching Star Trek.

Random facts: was born in the afternoon even though my initials are "AM"; used to be older than my Mother (at least for a while when she claimed to be 29); of my brother's family (Jerry, Jamie, Jade, and Joe; a.k.a. "J-4") only one (Joe) has a first name that actually begins with "J".
