School Leadership Institute

PURPOSE

The purpose of The University of Southern Mississippi School Leadership Institute is to improve the achievement of students in all content areas by accomplishing the following goals:

  • To improve the leadership skills of building-level administrators, prospective administrators and building-level administrators working on temporary administrative certificates in facilitating core content instruction, comprehension, and student achievement;
  • To align content topics with MS content standards;
  • To integrate content standards into daily instruction;
  • To integrate technology into daily instruction;
  • To utilize school-based administrative applications of technology through the use of personal digital assistants and software such as Power Point and teacher observation, and test data analysis software, web-sites, email, and daily organizer;
  • To be able to manipulate and interpret appropriate test data;
  • To be able to develop and implement action plans based on test data.

The Summer Institute consists of twenty 3.5 hour sessions held during the summer with two 3.5 hour follow-up sessions held during the fall.

Participants are school-level administrators.

Sponsored by The University of Southern Mississippi's Department of Educational Leadership and Research and the Regional Service Center.

Funded by a grant provided by the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning.
