The 2001 edition of Where shall I go to study advertising and public relations? reports 1,679 scholarships are available at 298 colleges and universities that have advertising and public relations programs. In addition to scholarships, there are assistanships at 154 schools; loans available at 264 schools; on-campus employment at 288 schools and off-campus employment at 262 schools.
Compiled data from the 204 schools listed in the 37th edition finds an all-time high of 41,804 students currently enrolled in advertising and public relations programs. This is an increase of 2.7% over the past year.
There are three types of programs reported in the directory: advertising, public relations and joint advertising/public relations. Advertising has the largest number of students, 17,185, a decline of 3% the past year. Public Relation was up slightly, (1.7%) to 16,959. The largest increase (13%) in students was in the joint advertising/public relations programs, 7,660.
Three schools dominate most categories in advertising, the University of Florida reports the most degrees (250), Michigan State University has the largest student enrollment (922) and the University of Texas has the largest full-time faculty (19)
In public relations, the University of Florida conferred the largest number of degrees (201) and the largest number of students (844). Boston University leads in schools with joint advertising/public relations programs in both students (941) and degrees (336).
Entrance requirements for students range from 16 to 20 score on the ACT exam and 640 to 1200 on the SAT exam. Acceptance range on high school GPA is 2.0 to 3.7.
