Lubbock, TX: Today's advertising and public relations graduates face a crowd when seeking employment, according to research data compiled from the 2003 directory, Where shall I go to study advertising and public relations? edited by Billy I. Ross, Louisiana State Univer-sity and Keith F. Johnson, Lubbock, TX.
Information from the 39th edition revealed that the total number of degrees in advertising and public relations rose to 13,225 last year, the largest number in the decade. Student enrol-lment for the same period decreased to 41,982 which could be positive in reducing the size of classes.
There were increases in the number of bachelor's degrees and the number of master's and doctorate students. Decreases were noted in master's and doctorate degrees; undergraduate students and fulltime faculty.
The editors noted that incoming students will find that entrance requirements, and the cost of tuition, fees, and housing, have increased. Specific information on each school listed in the directory includes type of program, accreditation, degrees offered, financial assistance, entrance requirements, tuition & fees, student organizations, the number of students & faculty and a person to contact. The information can also be found on a web site (<htttp://www.mcom. ttu.edu/wsig>), housed at the Texas Tech University School of Mass Communications.
School leaders included Michigan State University and the University of Texas-Austin in advertising; the University of Florida and California State University-Fullerton in public relations; and the University of South Carolina and Pennsylvania State University in merged advertising/public relations programs.
In addition to Louisiana State University and Texas Tech University, other sponsors of the directory include the American Association of Advertising Agencies, American Advertising Federation, Direct Marketing Association, American Academy of Advertising, Lubbock (TX) Advertising Federation, The Houston Chronicle, and the Advertising Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
The directory and the web site are published by Advertising Education Publications, POB 68232, Lubbock, TX 79414.
