Homework
Assignment!
Paper due
Monday, Feb. 6th on variation in cell structure and
function. No late assignments
will be accepted regardless of reason. If you have a valid university approved excuse for missing class,
you may email the paper to me with prior approval. The paper should be submitted
through turnitin and as a hard copy in class. You will have to go the www.turnitin.com and set up an account then use our
course info (Class ID 4691398; password micro) to
submit the paper. Keep in mind the deadline is 10:00 am on Monday and
sometimes it takes turnitin time to process your submission. Papers not
processed before the deadline will not be graded. Your paper should be at
least one full page in length, typed, double spaced, 12 point font
in the Times New Roman style. Your page margins should be set at one
inch all around (top, bottom and both sides). If you have more than one
page, remember I do not accept unstapled work. There should be no
title information or class information included on your paper. Write
your class number in the top right hand corner. Do not type it on the
first line. The text of your paper should start at the top margin (1
inch). If your paper does not meet all of these format requirements, I
will deduct points. Your paper should explain the differences
between prokaryotes and eukaryotes (most of the paper should be
dedicated to this content), the differences between archaea and
bacteria, and the structural differences between Gram positive
and Gram negative bacteria (do not include information
about their gram stain reactions). Please be thorough including all
topics covered in the lecture notes (cell wall, cell membrane, genetic
material, cell division, ribosomes ect...). Please write this paper
using a compare and contrast style. You may use your class notes,
textbook or other resources. You do not have to cite your
sources within the text of your paper or include a literature cited
section. This assignment is
worth 20 points toward your daily grade and may not be used as a drop
grade. If the turnitin.com similarity index is 15% or greater then you
will only be eligible for half credit. If the similarity index is
excessively high your paper will not be graded!

Homework Assignment!
Paper due Monday, April 23rdon epidemiology of
notifiable diseases. No late
assignments will be accepted regardless of reason. Your paper
should be at least one full
page in length, typed, double spaced, 12 point font in the Times New
Roman style. Your page margins should be 1 inch at top, bottom and both
sides. There should be no title
information or class information included on your paper. Type or
write your class number in the top right hand corner. If your paper does
not meet all of these format requirements, I will deduct points. Follow
the link above to the 2011 CDC list of notifiable infectious diseases. Select one disease from
the list and write your paper on its epidemiology. Keep in mind that
epidemiology includes all of the following topics: etiology, reservoir,
mode of transmission, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, prevention and
treatment. You must have two sources of material for the paper (your
textbook, the CDC general website, WHO website, ect...). You do not have
to site the sources within the text of your paper, but you must list them
on a separate page. Please
be careful to use complete citations (for example, just
listing a url address is not a complete citation or if you use a book be
specific about which pages). You should use APA style for your
citations. If you need help with this there is information available on
the internet or through the USM library Web page. Remember I do not
accept unstapled work. This
assignment is worth 20 points and may not be used as a drop grade. Please
remember you must submit your paper through turnitin before class begins
Monday or you will receive no credit. A similarity index of greater than 15% is unacceptable
and the paper will only be eligible for 1/2 credit. Papers with an
excessively high similarity index will not be
graded!
